On the 8HP transmissions, it's possible to flash “3rd party” software from other vendors. There are a couple of steps to follow before and after flashing to ensure that everything goes smoothly. It's recommended to keep CANTCU connected during flashing, as CANTCU controls the WUP (wakeup) of the transmission.

1. Disable Transmission Protocol in CANTCU
2. Update settings
3. Restart CANTCU
4. Verify that CAN1/CAN2 load dropped to 0%

1. Enable Transmission Protocol in CANTCU
2. Update settings
3. Restart CANTCU
4. Verify that CAN1/CAN2 load is back to normal and communication with transmission is working
5. Clear fault codes
